NewgateConcise - Printing Services, Business & Promotional Printing, Litho Printing in South London, UK
Newgate press began in 1946 when two brothers, Jack and Dennis Garland, set up a print company after leaving the RAF.
In the 1960’s the Company settled in EC1 and became one of the first printers in London to predict the switch from letterpress machines; they were the second company in London to install a
multi colour litho machine offering litho printing services.
By 1975 the company had built a strong reputation for printing paperback book covers and that side of the business was separated out to become Concise Cover Printers, operating from its own factory in Hackney, East London.
Whilst Concise expanded its customer base in the publishing
world, Newgate concentrated on working for agencies and
direct users of print.
As the two companies expanded, they both made independent moves south of the Thames.
The benefits of shared reproduction facility were recognised and a third company was formed to fill that need. All three companies continued to expand and develop during the 80s and 90s,
constantly updating their plant and pushing the emerging technologies of computerisation.
At the beginning of 2004, an opportunity was grasped; the separate set-ups were amalgamated into one new, custom fitted factory, housing an almost entirely new range of presses. A major investment in new pre-press technology combined with the
re-merging of the companies, into NewgateConcise.
More than half a century on, NewgateConcise continues to build on the foundations laid down by Jack and Dennis, whilst the new generations have picked up their vision and are constantly looking forward to new technologies and new opportunities.
